It used to be that people had two options when buying scales. They could get accuracy, even down to 0.01g, but the scales would have a small maximum load. Alternatively, they could get a large maximum load but not the ability to weigh in precise 0.01g increments. However, these days, that’s not a problem. Many postal scales weigh in 0.01g increments but weigh up to 5kg. Even more common are scales that weigh from 0.01g to 1000g. In fact, most scales weigh from 0.01g to 1000g, including small weighting scales, so you don’t have to house something cumbersome in your home to get scale and precision in one machine.
One factor to consider is price, however. A scale that weighs 0.01g to 1000g will be more expensive than one that weighs 1g to 1000g, so it’s advisable to decide if you really need0.01g weighing precision in what you’re weighing.
